Bio: Baiba Ivulāne has obtained her doctoral degree in philology from the University of Latvia in the field of Latvian synchronic linguistics (2015). She has worked as a lecturer at the Department of Latvian and General Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia. Currently, she holds the role of a metadata expert at the Institute of Bibliography, National Library of Latvia.
Topic: Lost on the Web. Descriptive Metadata for Images in the Digital Library of Latvia
A digital object without descriptive metadata is a lost digital object – it is on the web, but it is not possible to find and use it. The presentation will focus on the importance of descriptive metadata to ensure that the resources are searchable. The presentation will be based on the experience of creating descriptive metadata for photographs in the Digital Library of Latvia.
