Dr. Boyan Blazhev

Bio: Boyan Blazhev was born in Sofia (Bulgaria), he graduated with a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in painting at the National Academy of Arts in the class of ad. Prof. Svetlin Rusev. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, painting section. He has PhD in the field of Pedagogy of Fine Arts from Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”, Plovdiv (Bulgaria).  His doctorate is on the topic “Development of skills for depicting objects in nature through teaching tasks in painting” with additional qualifications at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. Teacher of computer graphics with 20 years of experience in the field of higher and secondary education. He specialized in the Erasmus+ program in Helsinki, Finland and participated as an expert in the international mobile digitalization project (Mobidig), which was twice awarded for its quality performance. Co-author of the project “Digitization, digital restoration and presentation of old photos” under the Erasmus+ program. Participated in reports and articles at numerous international conferences related to the application of digital technologies and computer graphics in contemporary visual art. There are seven solo exhibitions, and numerous general ones both in the country and abroad. In 2020 participated in the international digital exhibition “The Bridge”, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. In the period 2021 – 2023, he participated in a series of international exhibitions organized by the “Aydan Adnan Menderes Center for Art and Culture Applications and Research” Aydan, Turkey. Participant in numerous plein airs in the country and abroad, in 2021 he participated in the plein air – “Painted sensations seventh edition”, Art Gallery Svilengrad, Svilengrad. He works in the field of easel painting. In his work, he uses a mix of digital technologies and traditional techniques.

Digitization, Digital restoration and Presentation of Old Photographs (Digital Restoration Lab) is a project developed with the support of the European Union and the Erasmus program.

The main goal of the project is to systematize, integrate and disseminate modern practices for digitization, digital restoration and exhibition of vintage photographs.

The most valuable priority of the project is the inclusion of photographic collections in the digital European Information Fund.

The project seeks to improve the abilities of photographers, archivists, managers of small photo studios, photo archives, students and teachers in the field of photography, librarians of small libraries, archives, community centers, museums, monasteries and others working in the field of digitization and preservation of photographs through training and resources, thereby ensuring the long-term preservation of these important cultural and historical artifacts.
